Lady Spartans honor seniors
With second place in District 9-5A already in hand, Centennial’s girls soccer team worked hard on senior night to make it a special one for the seniors.
While seniors Lacye Mayfield and Kendall Hillis combined in a 5-0 shutout of Everman, two of four seniors scored goals Tuesday night.
Seniors Emilie Harvey and Brooke Davis each scored goals while seniors Lindsey Beckrich and Chelsie Rodriguez registered assists.
Harvey also picked up assists on goals by underclassmen Cooper Cowan and Madi Gilbert. Maddie Pewitt had an assist in the win.
The Lady Spartans will open the playoff next weekend against Red Oak.
Centennial coach Kara Cuellar said this senior class, like each of the others before, it was special.
“It was a fun night for the seniors,” Cuellar said. “I’ve had these girls since they were freshmen. This group has made a huge impact on the program since their freshman year up to their senior year. A lot of the younger girls have looked up to them and seen the things they have done over the years. I’m going to miss them. I had to pinch myself last night so I wouldn’t cry.”
Cuellar said it was nice to score after not being able to find the back of the net in recent games.
The Lady Spartans lost to district-champions Joshua, 2-0, Friday night.
