Lady Elks playoff bid falls short

After falling to Cleburne Friday night, Burleson entered Tuesday’s District 9-5A girls soccer game needing a win at Crowley to make the playoffs.

The Lady Elks couldn’t register the win as Crowley scored with 15 minutes to play with a 1-0 win.

“Once they scored I started pushing people up,” Burleson coach Chris Leshinski said. “A tie wasn’t going to help us so I had to go all in.”

The move produced some chances but Burleson couldn’t find the back of the net and its season ended with the loss.

The Lady Elks were trying to get to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Friday night before a 1-0 loss to Cleburne, the program honored its seven seniors.

The senior class includes Kaitlyn Wiggins, Amanda Wince, Hannah Werner, Madison Ezell, Jordan Cooksey, Angelica Perales and Dana Love

“They have built the foundation and brought playoff soccer back to Burleson,” Leshinski said. “It’s been a long dry spell between playoff appearances and they have tried to start a tradition. The program is improving and part of that is because of the seniors.”
