Four regional titles in a row

Elks send five to state, Centennial three

For the fourth consecutive year, Burleson’s powerlifting team defended its Division 1 Region 2 title Saturday on its home mats. The regional title gives the Elks a chance to defend their state title

The Elks scored 31 points to claim the title. College Station finished second with 22 points and San Marcos was third with 18 points. Centennial placed seventh with 11 points.

“The kids did a great job,” Burleson coach Jeff Berry said. “All of our kids went up in their totals and moved up in the rankings. It was a total team effort. We don’t have as many kids in the top five of their weight classes this year going in to state, but we do have a couple that will competing for medals. Our kids have had a great year, especially after losing all seven lifters from last year’s state championship team. We are very proud of all of them.”
