“It took us most of the first half to get our footing in the game, but once we did I felt like we played fairly well,” Joshua coach Jeffrey Brooks said. “We had a couple of breakdowns that led to the two goals, but we can learn from them and our ladies played hard throughout. I’m very pleased with their attitudes and work rate.”
The Lady Owls (7-3-2) close out non-district play Friday against Fort Worth North Side. Joshua begins District 15-4A play Tuesday at Granbury.
Joshua trailed 1-0 at halftime. Hayley Rohleder notched the Lady Owls goal off an assist from Alyssa Williams. Brooks credited defender Lori Gaskill with smart, tough defending.
“She did a fairly good job of organizing the backline,” Brooks said.
The Lady Owls traveled to Waco Friday night and hammered the Lady Lions, 8-0. Mackenzie Anderson registered the shutout.
“The ladies gave a fairly good effort,” Brooks said. “Obviously, it was good to put a few in the back of the net. Still, we have a long way to go and look forward to continuing to improve.”
Williams, Sandy Diaz and Sky Plummer each scored a pair of goals. Hayley Rohleder also scored.
Danielle Erinakes scored a goal and registered three assists. Caitlyn Rohleder had two assists while Hayley Rohleder and Sandy Diaz each added one assist.
Owls lose to Cougars
Joshua’s boys soccer team lost to Fort Worth Western Hills, 2-0, Tuesday night to close out non-district play.
“We just came out flat,” Joshua Coach Gary Walker said. “Missing two starters and playing poorly is never a good mix. We had opportunities to score but just didn’t it them away.”
The Owls open District 15-4A play hosting Granbury Tuesday.
